Mothers United : June 4th, 2011 - Grape Creek Vineyards

I'm organizing a music festival for all the Volvo-driving soccer moms out there. "Mom Rock" is one of the most popular mainstream genres around and its fans deserve a gathering of the masses.

The festival will take place at the beautiful Grape Creek Vineyards in Fredericksburg, Texas. This will be no Lilith Fair. This will be a celebration for the rocking mothers of the world. These moms deserve to hear their favorite music live, not just in the kitchen while cooking dinner for the fam. I've hand-picked the best of the best and can't wait for this summertime event. Here's the line-up so far:

Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi could not be a more fitting headliner for Mothers United. He made his debut in the 80's, but secured a position as mom-rock royalty in the new millennium. His clean cut image and infectious pop hits will have the entire motherly audience weeping with desire.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 spent no time screwing around. They went straight for the kill. Quintessential Mom Rock Bliss. The grooves will be in full bloom.

Train

Transcendental emotion. Train has some mega hits. Euphoria will be the minimum level of excitement during their set. Heaven's shining light of glory will be glistening over the stage throughout "Drops Of Jupiter." BAR-NONE.

Rob Thomas

Fleeing from his roots in Matchbox Twenty, Thomas took the mom-jams to the next level. His gateway began with "Smooth," the smash hit collaboration with Carlos Santana. Following that single's raging success, Rob integrated the same sensitive crowl into a more pop-rock setting. The result is dazzling.
WINE GLASSES IN THE AIR.

Vince Gill

A nice change of pace with one of mom-rock's most consistent torch carriers. He may not be as "hip and with it" as other artists on the bill, but the guy can stand and deliver. Nashville wouldn't be the same without him and neither would Mothers United.

Five For Fighting

Five For Fighting. The piano pop continues. This song was destined for ending montages on prime time sitcom melodramas throughout the early millennium. NEVER A WISH BETTER THAN THIS.

The Fray

Fantastic band to open the fest. The gates will open, The Fray will ignite.

Calling all mothers.

It's Nü. it's Metal.

I used to have braces. I also used to enjoy extremely shitty music.

For a period of time in my early teens, I was a big fan of a new rock sub-genre dubbed "Nü Metal."
This mainstream genre spawned in the wake of the Limp Bizkit and Korn revolution.

I am not to blame. The young do stupid things, but some never learn.

The San Antonio rock station 99.5 KISS has failed to see past this tasteless bigotry and still spins some of these bands on constant rotation.

Here's some insight:

Ahh Disturbed. These guys are sick in the head, haha. However, they have refused to wash away with time and still create music for meat-heads across the nation. I discovered this one on the Little Nicky Soundtrack. Needless to say, my bus rides to school ROCKED.

Ozzfest. WOOHOO.

Oh baby. SALIVA. The idea for this post derived from this very song. At 3am this morning I was venturing home and decided to check out what KISS had playing. I immediately was bombarded by this rap-rockin' masterpiece. I was driving my Tahoe, but for a moment I felt like I was in THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS. Following some uncontrolled laughter and bafflement, I flicked the dial to the nearest tejano station. I could say more, but I won't.

JUST A KID WITH A PAD AND A PEN AND A BIG IMAGINATION!!!

American Head Charge. Somewhat of a saving grace for such a superficial genre. These guys are idiots, don't get me wrong, but they managed to pump out some fairly harsh and catchy Nü Metal. I know several folks who were at the concert above. At the time, all of them told me it was the "most insane" concert they had ever been to. GIVE IT UP.

I was REALLY into Cold. COLD. Nothing like some depressing Nü Jams. My father took me to see them open for Staind and Rammstein. Best show of all time. Notice how Scooter (I know his name) is wearing a Nonpoint shirt. REPRESENT.

SOIL. This album came out on 9/11/2001. I bought it that day. WHAT THE HELL.

WAAAAAZAAAAAA. Static-X. Industrial Nü Metal. Headlined a show in 2003 at The Live Oak Civic Center with Soil and Soulfly. I was there. 'Twas a hoot. Filth. PURE FILTH.

Feel the emotion. A poor man's Linkin Park. I bought this full-length album but returned it. If I wanted it again I'm sure I could find it for less than a dollar somewhere. But I don't.

San Antonio favorites THE UNION UNDERGROUND. Rumor has it that when these guys got signed they blew all of their money immediately on Sex, Drugs, and Rock N' Roll. Looks like things worked out for 'em. ROCK STARS.

Who could forget this anthem? Drowning Pool debuted on the scene with a vengeance. Dallas Maniacs. This song started a riot among professional wrestlers, sub-par fitness trainers, and synthetic drug-heads. SOMETHIN'S GOT TO GIVE!

The list goes on but I can't continue. I've already wasted way too much time writing this. It's Superbowl Sunday for cryin' out loud.
